by Kathleen Legner, Guidance Director at EHS

Corey Trump, son of Mark Trump and Regina Evina, of Earlville, was selected from a pool of applicants to be offered a position in the Education to Careers program in the US Operations Division of Caterpillar in Aurora, Illinois. Education to Careers is a school-to-work initiative promoting education, workforce preparation and life-long learning. Through the cooperative effort of Caterpillar, educators and parents, Education to Careers enables the student to expand career options, explore a multitude of educational opportunities, and prepare for the real world. The initiate combines demanding school-based curriculum with practical work-based experience preparing students for more highly skilled careers, higher wages, and future education opportunities. The work experiences are in Quality Assurance, Planning Processing, Assembly, General Maintenance, Metal Cutting Machines, Tool and Die, Precision Measuring Machines and Welding. The types of internships to choose from are General Manufacturing, Tool &I Die, Electricians, Maintenance Mechanics, and Logistics/Supply Chain.

Caterpillar will pay Corey’s tuition of approved courses as he works towards an Associate of Applied Science Degree at Illinois Valley Community College. Caterpillar will provide on-the-job, paid-work experience; full-time during the summer and part-time during the school year. Corey will then be encouraged to finish a Bachelor’s Degree with education assistance provided by Caterpillar.

Corey has been a student at Indian Valley Vocational Center for the past two years in the area of Auto Mechanics. He has been involved in Skills USA, the Chi-Town Teardown Competition, and competed in World of Wheels Car Show, where his team took 4th place out of 20 schools. At Earlville High School, Corey has been involved on Homecoming and Prom committees.
